2 Sticks Butter (no substitutes, but I do use light butter)
1-Cup Blanched Almonds
1-Cup White Sugar
1 Tablespoon White Corn Syrup
5 Plain Hershey Bars or 7.5 Ounces of Milk Chocolate Chips
1-Tablespoon Water

Place butter, sugar, water, and syrup in iron skillet (use cast iron only) over medium heat, then stir with wooden spoon continuously until a shade darker than light brown sugar (approximately 20-30 minutes). This is the key: if not cooked long enough it will be too chewy or tough: should be crisp. I spray a light coat of cooking spray onto the cookie sheet, then pour hot toffee mixture onto cookie sheet and spread fast as it will harden quickly. Drop 5 broken Hershey bars on top, or most of the contents of a bag of milk chocolate chips. Allow the chocolate to melt on hot toffee mixture, and then spread chocolate over entire surface with knife or spatula. Sprinkle almonds over top and press lightly. Chill in refrigerator for at least an hour. Break into small pieces and store as you would any chocolate candy. I freeze mine sometimes for months. This toffee is delicious and easy to make. It also makes a great gift!
